"Backstaged: The Devil in Metal" is like no podcast you've ever heard. Every show covers metal history and culture by taking a deep dive into trenchant events and subjects from the past 50 years. Like a good true-crime podcast, "Backstaged: The Devil in Metal" is narratively structured, but supported by quotes from some of the top performers in the scene, including members of Black Sabbath, Metallica, King Diamond, Judas Priest, Slipknot, Motley Crue, Slayer, Skid Row, Def Leppard, KISS, Megadeth and many more.

"Backstaged: The Devil In Metal" is a production of Diversion Podcasts in coordination with iHeart Radio. The show's first two episodes debut May 14. Tune in to "The Satanic Verses Vol. 1 and 2" to learn when the devil first slithered his way into metal, who really pioneered the sign of the horns (it's probably not who you think) and how the Satanic Panic of the '80s was a declaration of war against the record collections of countless American teens.

The two opening episodes also chronicle the history of devil metal, from the '70s to the present day. They address which artists delved in the darkness for shock value and which claim they received energy and empowerment from their incantations and rituals. We'll also address the demonic transition from death metal to black metal, a scene in which young Norwegian Satanists upped the ante on extremism by burning churches and committing acts of murder.

The third installment of "Backstaged: The Devil in Metal" will explore guitar legend Tony Iommi and his band Black Sabbath. Learn about the tragic accident that triggered Tony's iconic sound and hear how the band combined their experiences growing up in post-war Birmingham with their love for horror movies to create a cinematic, minor key-based music form that would -- in the years to come -- be known as heavy metal and would influence everyone from Judas Priest to Type O Negative. Future episodes will tackle, the tribulations and triumphs of Judas Priest, the horrors of heroin and the decades when metal musicians enjoyed lives of sexual decadence and debauchery.

"Backstaged: The Devil in Metal" is written, edited and hosted by author and journalist Jon Wiederhorn. Listen on iHeart or your favorite podcast outlet.
